The Graduate College would like to congratulate our very own Tsz Kwok, EdD ‘16, MS ‘07, BS ‘05 who was selected as a recipient of this year’s Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence, one of the annual Provost Awards. The award goes to select adjunct faculty members that exemplify the highest quality of teaching and mentorship of students. Tsz received the 2022 Adjunct Teaching Award for Westphal College in MS Online Retail and Merchandising under the Direction of Dr. Joseph H. Hancock, II.

Dr. Kwok is currently the Associate Director of the Graduate College and an adjunct faculty member in the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design since 2018. Effective July 1, Dr. Kwok will be promoted to Director of Academic Administration in the Graduate College, as well as Director of Graduate Multicultural and Equity Affairs in which he will liaise with the newly appointed Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Leslie Ashburn-Nardo, PhD, chair of the Diversity Advisory Council, Ebony White, PhD, and other individuals and committees devoted to fulfilling the University’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Dr. Kwok serves more than 6,000 graduate students, both on campus and online, and supports faculty and professional staff members who teach and advise graduate students in all of Drexel’s college and schools. He has also been especially involved in supporting our international graduate student community.

Dr. Kwok’s teaching philosophy is based on passion. He believes that by “incorporating passion into learning, teachers can help transform lectures into something desirable, enjoyable and practical.” He also recognizes that his philosophy changes with every group of students but being a passionate educator is fundamental for students’ learning.

Dr. Kwok began his academic journey as an undergraduate student at Drexel studying biology in 2000. In his pre-junior year, he began teaching an SAT Math course to inner-city Philadelphia high school students under the direction of his mentors, Dr. Craig Bach and Professor Shelia Graves. It was during this experience that he found a love of teaching and decided to change his major to education. Dr. Kwok continued his education at Drexel and went on to earn a master’s degree in Teaching, Learning and Curriculum while working as a teaching assistant for Professor Graves.

Throughout his undergraduate and graduate journey, Dr. Kwok recalls meeting inspiring educators and mentors that were “truly wonderful people” including Dr. Teck-Kah Lim, former Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professor Emeritus in the department of Physics, Dr. Fredricka Reisman, Emerita Professor and Founder of the School of Education, Professor Alexis Finger, Associate Teaching Professor Emeritus, Dr. Rebecca Clothey, Associate Professor and Dr. Joseph Hancock, Director of the MS in Retail and Merchandising Online. A few years after receiving his master’s degree, Dr. Kwok decided to continue his education and pursue a doctoral degree. He wrote his thesis on international graduate students and the transitional challenges they face when relocating to study in a new country.

Dr. Kwok continues to advocate for leadership development, creative leadership, domestic and international student orientation and support programs, and qualitative research methods within the Drexel community.

Dr. Kwok would like to thank his deceased grandmother C.K. Sing and colleagues, Dr. Joseph Hancock, Dr. Elisabeth Van Bockstaele, Professor Anne Converse Wilkomm, Dr. Giuseppe Salomone, Mr. Naveen Kumar, and Ms. Geneviene Chiu for their ongoing support. He is also grateful for the continuous support he receives from his mentors within the Drexel community and the entire amazing team in the Graduate College.
